The Gothic Corset
The rigid, boned bodice that is the corset has a long and divisive history. Corsets were popular among women in the western world from the 16 th century to the early 1900s. Most were worn by women although there were some men who wore corsets.
The first corset was a sleeveless bodice that fit snugly and had whalebone stays built in to keep everything in place. With time, the whalebone was replaced with steel compressing a woman’s waistline.
As the As the years progressed, corsets evolved in shape from longer ones that went over the hips to shorter ones that stuck to one’s waistline.
The corset carved the body into the most desired shape: an hourglass shape for women in the 1800s to an S shape popular in the 1900s.
Corsets reached the peak of their popularity in the 19 th century when they became increasingly accessible to middle class and even working class women.
Today, corsets are no longer a standard part of women’s wardrobes. But they are still popular with many women.
Gothic Corsets
Gothic corsets are more than just undergarments. They are a staple part of Gothic fashion and mainstream fashion indeed.
It was designer Vivienne Westwood who reimagined corsets not as a restrictive and punishing garment, but as an empowering fashion piece.
Today Gothic corsets are seen as sexy, mysterious, and versatile wardrobe pieces for modern women.
They are worn in a versatile way, as lingerie, as stand lone tops, and even over dresses and shirts. Gothic corsets can even be worn under a blazer to work.
For women who are part of the steam punk and goth lifestyles, these corsets are a mainstay. Bralette corset tops look like crop tops but they offer extra support.

What makes Gothic Brassiere’s Unique
Gothic corsets are an essential part of Gothic fashion. They enhance a woman’s hourglass shape and were very common during the Medieval times and in the Victorian era.
Because the hourglass shape has never gone out of style, Gothic corsets are still in use today. With a custom made Gothic corset, you can achieve a higher degree of comfort and a better fit, but readymade Gothic corsets can be just as good.
Gothic corsets are designed as under bust or over bust. Underbust corsets stop beneath your breasts while overbust corsets cover your breasts. Satin corsets tend to have more comfort and are better for a beginner. Look for a color that can go well with a long skirt or pants. Gothic corsets are super feminine. They have ribbons, hooks, and laces fitted to look pretty. They come in all colors, not just the stereotypical black. You can find them in florals and bright colors like red.
Choose between a bustier, underbust corset or waspie belt corset. They look great partnered with a black lace top. Besides silk, satin, and velvet, you can also find Gothic corsets in cotton, PVC fabric, as well as lenin. They are garnished with buckles, drawstrings, eyelets, lace up, and hooks as well as brooches, ruffles, and plastic boning instead of steel if you want something less stiff. Gothic clothing is popular for Halloween parties and theme parties but can also be worn on dates with pants and skirts.
